This weekend Norwegian Refugee Council raised over 200 million kroner in direct donations. During recent years companies all over the world have found that it's cool to volunteer, and Oslo-based companies are no exception. Over 150 companies in Oslo and the metropolitan area made the decision to donate to the cause this year. That is actually not a lot when you consider that there are tens of thousands of businesses in this area.
The result: Oslo-based companies provided for 1.5 percent of the amount that was raised for the TV-fundraiser.
It was the weekend of the telethon, but at the same time, it was the weekend of the flea market. The funding of uniforms and instruments was secured in the most traditional way for school marching bands, that all parade in Karl Johan’s gate on the 17th of May.
A fair amount of millions, perhaps even a greater amount than what companies donated to the TV-fundraiser, was collected at flea markets all over Oslo this weekend.
The flea Market is also the stage for the final phasing out of different products: There are reports of major issues in getting rid of classic TV-sets among this year's fleas.
