– There was a market here that no one had discovered before, general manager of Bunnpris on Grønland Waseem Khawaja says. He says that after a bit of a slow start the turnover during the night now is at 50 percent of the daytime turnover.
– At night we sell milk, bread and tacos just like any other day, Waseem says. His store opened on the 10th of September.
On Thursday another 24 hours grocery store opened for business, just around the corner for Waseem´s store. Joker owner Sajjad Hussain has taken over the premises in Mandalsgate 6, with entrance from Grønlandsleiret where the Prix store earlier this year had to close for business. Both storeowners claim they had the idea of launching a 24 hour grocery store concept, and that the other has followed in their footsteps.
– Waseem came to me and said he had heard news of me opening a 24 hours grocery store, Hussain says. He even wished me good luck, and a few days later he put up posters saying that Bunnpris would be open 24 hours, Hussain explains. The owners are already competing for customers in the same neighborhood.
