The marine innovation network MarLife and Oslotech, is about to launch the Biomarine Business Center in Oslo. This accompanies a report mapping out the joint biotech future of both the research and business environments.
– This will be Oslo's first and oly Biomarine Business Center, attracting trend setting marine companies and solution providers, says professor Øystein Lie, the MarLife CEO. The business center will open at Norway's number one science and innovation hub, Oslo Science Park, in november 2013.
Head office
The business center will also be the head office of MarLife, wich is an international bio marine innovation network, covering all marine sectors and entire value chain.
– We offer a unique marine environment of players which allows cross talk to incease idea flow and advance innovation. The business center will also have access to a large resource pool of biotech students, researchers, vast biotech in general and marine in particular national and international networks, says Øystein Lie.
At the business center startups and marine players will be assisted at rigging R&D and innovation projects.
– We are located in a versatile and robust ecosystem at Oslotech, which harbors human resources within top science, business, finance and services, large capacities of meeting rooms, laboratories, incubator, startup companies, established businesses for most sectors, says Øystein Lie.
Value creation of life science
At the same time the "BioVerdi" project, initiated 18 months ago, will produce a road-map report this summer, lining up directions where business and industry in collaboration with academia and research will create added value of life science.
– The project has been very well received in all environments, from universities and industry to venture capital sector as well as governmental agencies. Top executives have expressed specific interest in and support for the project, says Øystein Lie, who is in charge of the project together with Marius Øgaard, manager for networks and competence at Oslotech.
Cross field
BioVerdi is a continuation of the Bioeconomy 2020, a Osltech project that focuses on measures for innovation for bio industries, which in a few years time are supposed to be a major source of value creation and business growth in the Oslo region and Norway.
Bioverdi is a cross field and trans boundary initiative to develop a stronger "ecosystem" of innovation. The project has been established in partnership between leading R&D units, industry representatives from bio production and pharma, capital industries and with support from public policy system and authorities. The project owners have discussed and agreed on the final goal, vision and strategy outlined in the up-coming report, to be published in the course of summmer 2013.
