New trend is working out for sport retailers

Anton Sport in Bogstadveien has noted a 60 percent increase in revenues in textile and shoes.

– We have a new running hype, and with it, we sell a lot of technical sportswear, general manager of Anton Sport Bogstadveien Gro Kotte says.

The store is the largest Nike retailer in Norway and is investing heavily in clothing for exercise. Since 2008, the stores revenue increased from nearly 3.3 million kroner to 14.4 million in 2009.

About 60 percent of it’s sales are from textiles and shoes.

The Anton Sport chain itself, with 19 companies, had a turnover last year of over 370 million kroner, with a negative pre-tax profit of 10.6 million kroner. This is still an improvement from last year's negative earnings of 23.9 million kroner.
