Growth in employment in Oslo was just one percent from 2000 to 2009, that results in an increase from 315 000 to 318 000 throughout the period. At the same time, business in the rest of the country increased with over 10 percent in terms of employment.
– Much of the gap between the growth in Oslo and the rest of the country occurred in the period of 2000 to 2003, Vareide concludes. This period was characterized by the end of the dotcom era, and much of the job losses in Oslo was in the IT and consulting industry, Variede says.
